my reflections

ada segumpal daging yang begitu ku jaga.
hati. hati. hati.
jangan pernah kau sentuh, apalagi memasuki.
tak akan kau butuh, sampai meminangi.
jangan pernah kau lirik, apalagi mengambilnya.

jangan pernah mengaku cinta, kalau.......

kembali, merindu

semakin ku rindui.
berulang kali ku mencoba untuk menyendiri.
berulang kali ku bersembunyi.
dibalik jerami padi.
sebanyak itu pula ku terhantui.

semakin ku asakan.
mimpi yang mengawan.
bak permaisuri rupawan.
aaaahh, akhirnya aku tertawan.

semakin ku rindui.
semakin ku asakan.
kesima hati penjarai.
oleh sebab manisnya berkawan.

Top 10 tips on getting that scholarship

Many of you will rely on some financial support to pay for your international education. For some, a scholarship could mean the difference between studying… and not studying. For others, it just helps with the cost of living, and also provides a bit extra to enjoy student life.
There are many scholarships available, and not all of them require you to prove you’re the most academically gifted person on earth. But they are incredibly competitive. So how do you make sure you get the scholarship or bursary you deserve?
Top tip #1: You usually can’t apply for a scholarship until you have been accepted into the courseThis may seem like it’s the wrong way around, but you do need to know you can pay your tuition fees and travel expenses without a scholarship. That way, if you do win a grant, you can pay back your local bank loan or have a bit of extra spending money.
Top tip #2: It’s not going to cover everythingRepeat after me… you can’t study for free. If you’re lucky enough to get a rare full scholarship, you’ll still have to find money for your travel, food, books, health insurance, phone calls and fun.
Top tip #3: Look beyond your universityYou can find a complete list of scholarships on many websites, including those awarded by private foundations (such as a Fulbright Scholarship), or government bodies in the host country (such as the British Council) or your own country (such as the Department of Education). Check carefully to see if you’re eligible – many have nationality, course or age restrictions.
Top tip #4: Every little bit helpsEven if it’s just a small grant towards the cost of your books, it’s worth taking the time to apply. It’s one less thing to worry about when you get there!
Top tip #5: Apply for as many as you canYes, it takes time. But it’s free money! So make a list of all the scholarships you are eligible for. Double-check you have all the right documents to prove your case, and get someone read over your supporting essay or letter. It’s always good to get another point of view.
Top tip #6: Be confident
If the application requires a letter or essay explaining why you deserve the scholarship, don’t be shy. List all your relevant achievements – not just academic results but also community work, career experience and awards.
Top tip #7: Avoid scholarship scams
There is no such thing as a ‘guaranteed scholarship’. You should never have to pay an application fee for a scholarship. Unfortunately, some dodgy scholarship companies will just take your money and disappear.
Top tip #8: Allow plenty of time
You need to think about your finances at least 18 months before you hope to start your course. But once you have been accepted onto the course, you may only have a short window of time where you can apply for a course-specific scholarship. So don’t miss your deadline; keep in touch with your StudyLink counsellor and with the University’s international office.
Top tip #9: Keep a record of all the documentsYou need proof of funds to get your visa sorted, and that includes the scholarship offer or agreement.
Top tip #10: Have a back up planDon’t despair if all those applications come to nothing. There are other ways to finance your education. Student loans, help from your friends and family, and company sponsorships are worth looking into as well.

Scholarship Applications – 10 Reasons why yours will fail

You want to study abroad. That dream does not come cheaply, and for many international students ascholarship is the only way to get there.
So why are so many scholarship applications sent straight to the bin?
In this article, we’ll share the ten most common mistakes students make with their scholarshipapplication. They may seem like commonsense – so make sure you avoid them if you want your application to succeed!

1. You don’t qualify for the scholarship

Let’s set some realistic expectations. Every scholarship – and there are a gazillion of them out there – has very specific requirements. So don’t bother applying if they require a straight-A student and you generally get C’s. Or if the scholarship is for Nigerian citizens, and you are from Singapore. Or if the scholarship is for post-grad students and you’re studying a diploma. It’s just not going to happen, and you’ll be wasting your time.
And of course, there’s no point in applying for a university scholarship if you haven’t yet been accepted for that program!

2. You forgot to research all the options

It takes time to prepare a good scholarship application, and the first step is research. You need to know all the options available to you and get as much information as you can on what each scholarship is looking for.
Almost every university and college has some kind of scholarship or bursary system – usually based on merit and always very competitive.
There are many other scholarships available, including private foundation ones (such as the Fulbright), international government agency ones (such as British Council) and your own government. Contact your local Department of Education for more information.

3. You only applied for one or two scholarships

Apply for as many as you qualify for! That gives you more chance of success. Yes, it takes time, as you need to write each application specifically for that scholarship – but you want the money, right?

4. You left it until the last minute

As well as research, you need time to get organised. Find some appropriate referees and let them know what you need them to do and say. Arrange for the required documentation such as transcripts – they may need to be certified. There’s no point in sending off the application unless it is complete, so don’t run the risk of forgetting something important.

5. You missed the deadline

This is surprisingly common. Every scholarship has a different deadline, so don’t assume they all fit to the same intake schedule. Once that deadline passes, it’s over. And if you do submit it late, it doesn’t reflect well on your organisational abilities.

6. You didn’t answer the question

The scholarship committee has designed the questions to find out whether you have the abilities they are seeking. So don’t answer a question about how you overcame an obstacle with a comment about your amazing high school results. If you fail to follow the specific directions or answer the questions fully, the committee assume you have just submitted the same copied and pasted application to every scholarship. Straight to the bin, I’m afraid.

7. You fell for a scholarship scam

Yep, you didn’t win the scholarship because it never actually existed. Beware of online sites offering ‘guaranteed’ scholarships for a small fee, or agencies that want your bank information or money in advance. You should never have to pay to apply for a scholarship. So don’t do it.

8. You lost your audience on the first page

If you’re applying for a post-graduate or research grant, don’t assume your reader will understand every technical detail of your planned PhD. Avoid the jargon and acronyms – unless you’re willing to explain them. Ask yourself, would my mum understand it? And if you’re not sure, get her to read it first.

9. You forgot to check your grammar

And your spelling too. Some committee will put your application on the reject pile if it has just one spelling mistake. It needs to be perfect, and it demonstrates your language ability too.

10. You didn’t get it proof-read

As some friends and family to check it over for spelling mistakes, structure and whether the questions are answered. It’s also good to show it to your referees, as they’ll then know what abilities to emphasise if they are asked for a referral.

Oops!

Here are some real mistakes students have made with their scholarship applications:
  • Mailed the envelope, without the application
  • Used impossible-to-read fancy font
  • Used completely illegible handwriting
  • Sent their arrest record in as a referral
  • Submitted a baby photo as their ‘recent’ picture
  • Forgot to include their name and address

wahai ukhti, aku CEMBURU!!

Bismillah..
Hingga kau hiraukan kami.
Ukhti, betapa dia menyilaukan dimatamu. Mengalahkan lembutnya sinar kami, pancaran kami.
Ukhti..
Ceritakan pada kami bagaimana dia bisa menarik perhatianmu, memberimu kasih sayang, memberimu kedamaian, memberimu kenyamanan, memberimu yang mungkin kamu anggap segalanya. Karena, kami sangat ingin menukar posisi dia ya, ukhti. Sangat.. ingin..menukar..posisi..dia..dengan kami..terutama dihatimu. Hati yang kamu sisihkan untuk saudara seimanmu.
Kamu pernah merasa cemburu?
Rihuyah kami yaaangg, lagi futur. Nurun. Merosot. Amal yaumi tak terpelihara. Silaturahim tak terjaga. Muamalah tak terperhatikan. Hubungan lawan jenis yang luar biasa.
Hatimu. Hatiku. Hati kita. Hati kami. Apa kabarnya?
Aku begitu cemburu. Cemburu. Cemburu.
Sapaan, teguran, di dominasi sang ikhwan. Mencari cari keberadaanmu, ukhti. Mencarimu untuk sebuah nasihat untukku. Tangisan bersama kurindukan.
Aku. Kami. Hanya makhlukNya. Tapi mengapa begitu cemburu?
Pernahkan kamu berpikir bagaimana cemburuNya kepadamu?

Wallahu’alam bisshowab.
